10-Day Gorilla Trekking Yoga Safari

4-13 June / 3-12 December 2026

Join Chris from Uganda Adventure Safaris and me on this incredible journey. Chris, a local expert, will guide us through his home country’s breathtaking landscapes, including a short hike to Murchison Falls and game drives across five national parks, offering unforgettable wildlife encounters.

We'll embark on foot to trek both gorillas and chimpanzees—an experience that will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable of your life. It has been for me, which is why I return two times a year. This rare opportunity allows only a few visitors to spend time with these magnificent creatures. Of the 18 gorilla families habituated for tourism, 17 reside in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where we'll have the chance to observe these gentle giants up close.

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that allows you to get up close with the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The adventure begins with a briefing by a park ranger, who will explain the guidelines for tracking and interacting with the gorillas. Once the trek begins, you’ll navigate through the dense, mist-covered forests of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.

As you trek deeper into the forest, the excitement builds, knowing that you are about to encounter one of the last remaining mountain gorilla families. The guided trek offers more than just the gorillas; the rangers will share their knowledge about the forest’s rich ecosystem, including the various plants, animals, and bird species that inhabit the area.

When you finally encounter the gorillas, you will witness their incredible social dynamics, watching them interact, feed, and relax. Spending an hour with these gentle giants is a truly humbling experience that offers a glimpse into their peaceful, close-knit family life. The forest itself, often referred to as the "Blind Forest" due to its dense, foggy atmosphere, adds an element of mystery to the journey. The misty air and lush greenery create an otherworldly atmosphere, enhancing the magical experience of trekking to see the gorillas.

The trek through Bwindi is not just about the gorillas; it’s a journey through a living, breathing ecosystem, where every step you take brings you closer to nature in its rawest form. It’s an adventure that stays with you long after you leave the forest.

  • Uganda’s cuisine is a delicious blend of fresh, locally sourced ingredients with influences from East Africa, India, and British colonial history. Staples include matoke (steamed green bananas), posho (maize porridge), sweet potatoes, cassava, and beans. Meat lovers can enjoy grilled chicken, beef, and goat, often served with a flavorful peanut sauce. Freshwater fish like tilapia and Nile perch from Lake Victoria are also popular.

At lodges, expect a mix of international and local dishes, catering to different dietary preferences. Breakfasts are typically hearty, featuring eggs, fresh fruits, pastries, and Ugandan coffee or tea. Lunch and dinner may include grilled meats, vegetable curries, fresh salads, and homemade soups. Many lodges offer buffets or à la carte menus with a fusion of African and Western flavors. Special dietary requests, including vegetarian and vegan options, are usually accommodated with prior notice.

For a true Ugandan experience, try rolex (a chapati rolled with eggs and vegetables), Luwombo (a traditional stew steamed in banana leaves), and the variety of tropical fruits like mangoes, pineapples, and passion fruit. Whether dining at a luxury lodge or a rustic safari camp, food in Uganda is fresh, flavorful, and satisfying.

  • Yoga sessions depends on the day’s activities and travel time. Since most mornings start quite early due to all the amazing activities on offer and also the best time to view wildlife, most yoga sessions will be in the afternoon. Sessions are a combination of pranayama, yin, slow flows, dynamic vinyasa flows, hatha and guided meditations - The sounds of the surrounding forests promises a calming and meditative state that will benefit beginners to experienced students. - more about Marcel, your yoga teacher
